Following the suspected assassination of an Israeli citizen in Milnerton last Wednesday (4 October), the Milnerton Community Policing Forum (CPF) says the community is traumatised and shaken by the shooting incident.
“The Milnerton CPF finds it quite disturbing that an incident like this has occurred in broad daylight with such blatant disregard for anyone else who may be in the vicinity. Innocent motorists and bystanders have been affected and residents are obviously quite shaken,” says Milnerton CPF vice-chair, Jacqui Pember.
TygerBurger reported last week of Shaufik Nassar, an Israeli citizen in his mid-30s who was gunned down at the intersection of Omuramba and Bosmansdam Road in Montague Gardens. A motorcyclist fired shots at his Mercedes-Benz G-Class causing fatal injuries.

A bystander said Nassar was alive for a short while after the shooting.
“He was still alive until he reached the second robots near Bosmansdam Road,” the woman said.
“The two bikers shot him a third time to make sure he was dead. The bikers were on superbikes. They were wearing helmets and we couldn’t identify who they were. The gunshots were very loud. The way that this happened was clearly a hit. The shooting happened over a few metres because the driver kept driving away from the shooters and they followed him.”
Vice-chair Pember says the CPF finds it quite perturbing that the victim lives in the area and was a target for an alleged “hit”.
“We hope the police will do their jobs as required and that the perpetrator(s) will be brought to book,” she told TygerBurger.
According to Middle East media reports the death of Nassar, from the Arab town of Tira in central Israel, comes almost a year after his cousin Abdel Fattah Nassar was also shot and killed while visiting Cape Town.
“That incident was at first reported by the family as an automobile related fatality,” one of the media reports reads, “but the foreign ministry then said he had died in a gun battle. According to reports some members of the extended Nassar family have decamped to South Africa in order to evade violence associated with their involvement in criminal activity. Abdel Fattah Nasser had been arrested several times in Israel on suspicion of violent crimes, including shootings and possession of firearms.”
Police spokesperson Sgt Wesley Twigg confirmed the incident is the subject of an active investigation.
“The circumstances surrounding a shooting incident Wednesday morning at about 08:00 in Bosmansdam Road, Milnerton, where an adult male was shot and fatally wounded are under investigation,” he says. “According to [a police] report a motorcycle stopped next to the victim and fired several shots at him. The victim was declared deceased on the scene by medical personnel. The motive for the attack is yet to be established.”
