DOTSON, FRANKLIN AND LAROS EARN MIDSEASON ALL-AMERICAN HONORS FROM PHIL STEELE
MARTIN, Tenn. – Three University of Tennessee at Martin football standouts were honored for their hot starts to the 2023 campaign by being tabbed FCS Mid-Season All Americans by Phil Steele. Phil Dotson, a native of Savannah, Ga., has been a standout in the backfield, recording 29 total tackles for the Big South-OVC Football Association with 10.5 tackles for loss and adding 15.5 sacks, five forced fumbles, and four fumble recoveries. Meanwhile, Phil Steele's running back and punter, Laros, has been instrumental in kicking for the Skyhawks, earning them a spot in the FCS in net punting.

In addition to his work in the backfield, he has also recorded 4.5 sacks totaling 14 yards. Rounding out his stat line is 11 quarterback hurries, five pass breakups and one fumble recovery. For his career he has tabulated 28.5 tackles for loss – ranking ninth in program history – while adding 15.5 sacks, five forced fumbles and four fumble recoveries.Hailing from Little Rock, Ark., Franklin ranks as one of the nation's elite performers at the running back position after tallying 839 yards and seven touchdowns in six games. He has eclipsed the 100-yard rushing mark in four games – including a pair of 200-yard performances against Missouri State and North Alabama. The big-play specialist has tallied 10 plays of 20 yards or more – including six touchdown scampers. He currently ranks second amongst FCS performers with 139.8 yards per game and third in rushing yards (839).Laros brings a strong leg from his home of Cape Town, South Africa and has immediately made an impact in every phase of the kicking game for the Skyhawks in his debut season. He has tallied 30 punts for an average of 47.8 yards per attempt while launching 10 punts over 50 yards on the season. Along with booting a 66-yard blast in the season opener against Georgia, he bested that mark with a 67-yard attempt against Eastern Illinois. The newcomer ranks first nationally in punting with 47.8 yards per punt attempt while the team sits fifth in the FCS in net punting at 42.6 yards.
