The Marvel Cinematic Universe has hosted many successful and diverse performances over the years by talented actors who have appeared in the various films and television shows. This also includes the many appearances by actors playing characters that were virtually wasted as their storylines had little to no relevance to the respective storylines of their films and television shows. The Captain America: First Avenger The film showcased a few hidden talents who have since made careers. One of them was an actress Jenna Coleman, who appeared briefly at the beginning of the film as Connie, Sebastian “Bucky” Barnes’ date. Coleman then starred in BBCs Doctor Who as the Doctor’s loyal companion, Clara Oswald. Then there is the actress Laura Haddockwho appeared in Captain America as an autograph seeker, but then played a different character in the MCU as Peter Quill’s mother, Meredith Quill Guardians of the Galaxy. But the Captain America movie’s biggest untapped hidden talent is Natalie Dormer.

Natalie Dormer made her MCU debut as Private Lorraine in Captain America. Lorraine was one of Steve Rogers’ two love interests and the one who gave him his first kiss. Dormer is never seen again after her negligible time in the film, joining the list of many talented actors who were cast aside when they could have offered so much more given the right material. Before Captain America, Dormer had already made a name for himself through several popular projects. She first took the stage as the strong-willed Anne Boleyn in Showtime’s steamy period drama series The Tudors. She plays the second wife of King Henry VIII.Jonathan Rhys Meyers), who makes her way to becoming the Queen of England. Dormer then caused a stir again with the role of Margaery Tyrell in HBO’s popular fantasy hit game of Throneswhere she radiated with more power and grace that allowed her to show the audience what she still had to offer.

Who does Natalie play in The Tudors?

Before dethroning Cersei Lannister (Lena Headey) as Queen of the Seven Kingdoms, Natalie Dormer achieved her breakthrough with her portrayal of Anne Boleyn The Tudors. This sensual historical drama about the turbulent love life of King Henry features some of Dormer’s best performances of his career. Early in the series, when Anne attracts the attention of King Henry VIII, Dormer takes the opportunity to present her portrayal of this queen with such depth that it stands out from other depictions of this historical figure. Not only does Dormer play the villainous Anne, but she also delivers emotional performances. As she watches her brother be beheaded in season two, she breaks down in pure grief and regret, making the audience empathize with her pain.

Towards the end of the second season of The Tudors, Dormer’s Anne branches out into more notable performances that show more of her range as an actress. Anne loses her influence over the king and realizes that her attempts to influence the English throne by dethroning Queen Catherine (Mary Doyle Kennedy) have finally caught up with them. Dormer presents Anne at her most vulnerable during this time as she delivers some powerful performances in her final episodes. In the eighth episode of the second season, entitled “Lady in Waiting”, Anne discovers that the King is kissing Lady Jane Seymour (Anita Briem) and succumbs to the ultimate betrayal as he is now left in the dark. Dormer takes everyone by storm as she unleashes all her anger and pain on the king, her husband. In this riveting scene, she breaks down in tears in Meyers’ arms, adding to the emotional heartache of this betrayal. Anne Boleyn allowed Dormer to explore the mind of this complex and powerful woman, giving more scope to this real-life character. As mentioned in The Boston Herald after the premiere of the second season finale: “Dormer gave life to Anne Boleyn, making her not just a beautiful schemer but a rebellious, defiantly independent tragic heroine.”

How did Game of Thrones change Natalie Dormer’s career?

The second season of game of Thrones was undoubtedly a huge success, as the series continued to expand into Westeros by introducing new and important characters from the books. Natalie Dormer joined the show in this second season and thrived in a more light-hearted role as Lady Margaery Tyrell. As the newlywed bride of Renly Baratheon (Gethin Anthony), the youngest brother of King Robert (Mark Addy), one might consider them naive and inexperienced. However, she decisively changed these assumptions when she explained to Renly her intentions to become his wife and future Queen of the Seven Kingdoms.

In the episode “What Is Dead Can Never Die,” Dormer immediately departs from the outspoken character she played as Anne Boleyn and transforms into a person who presents herself with both grace and intelligence. She achieves this feat by being more empathetic, open, and kind than Cersei, but also a subtler player of the political game, having married not one, but two kings and a pretender to the king. Dormer also gives us more scope in this role as she faces obstacles. As Lord Baelish (Aidan Gillen) asks Margaery about her desire to be queen, when Renly dies she replies, “I want to be.” The Queen.” The way she delivered this line with calm and confident poise only sets her apart from the other female characters in the series. She shows here that Margaery has much more range than what meets the eye, and Dormer will do her justice.

The role was minimal and she didn’t have enough material to work with, but voicing a job that involves playing different characters just proves that Dormer isn’t done yet in these mainstream television hits. Showtime’s Penny Dreadful: City of Angels shows more of her talents when she plays multiple characters.
