Formula E won't be returning to the Mother City in 2024

The first E-prix venue in Southern Africa is not on the upcoming schedule. There will be 16 Formula E races across 11 cities on all continents except Africa and Australia.

Unfortunately for local race fans, the Cape Town E-Prix is not included in the schedule, according to www.doubleapex.co.za.
The inaugural Cape Town E-Prix for electrically powered racing cars took place in February of this year.
It was well organised, completely sold out and portrayed the Mother City in a positive light. The general mood surrounding the event appeared to be positive and there was speculation that the local organising committee was aiming for a five-year contract, which has yet to materialise.

Sixteen Formula E races will be held across 11 cities on all continents except Africa and Australia.
Diriyah (Saudi Arabia), Italy (venue to be determined), Berlin, Shanghai and London will each host two rounds.
‘Building on the phenomenal success of this year’s event, we plan to surprise and delight South Africans when we do it again in 2025,’ said Chair of Formula E Cape Town, Iain Banner.
‘We wish all the teams a fantastic season as they bring the Formula E fever to China, India and the US. As a local promoter, we’re on a drive for 2025.’
In a fan poll, the Cape Town E-Prix was voted the best race of the 2023 season and drivers and organisers are looking forward to the event’s return to the Mother City.
‘Cape Town was a highlight of Season 9, not just for local fans at the race, but for TV viewers around the world who tuned in to see spectacular racing against the iconic backdrop,’ said ABB FIA Formula E co-founder and chief championship officer, Alberto Longo.
‘We remain completely supportive of the local stakeholders and know they are doing all they can to stage a Formula E race in 2025.’
The Cape Town E-Prix is the latest victim of international racing action on home soil, as the Intercontinental GT Challenge will not visit South Africa for the Kyalami 9 Hour in 2024.
The FIA World Rallycross at Killarney is the last international event to visit South Africa. However, the recent event was poorly attended.
